Government Approves ₹86.38 Crore for Tribal Development Projects
In a significant move to bolster the welfare of tribal communities, the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey, announced today in the Lok Sabha that the government has approved various proposals under the Pradhan Mantri DhartiAabaJanjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (PM DA JGUA), a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure in tribal areas. This initiative focuses on improving educational institutions, hostels, and community facilities, ultimately fostering holistic development.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has received and reviewed proposals from the Government of Telangana, resulting in the approval of substantial funding for these critical projects. According to the Project Appraisal Committee (PAC), a total of ₹86.38 crores has been earmarked for various developmental components pertaining to tribal welfare.
Investment Breakdown for Tribal Projects
Approved projects include:
- Nature of Proposal: Construction of tribal hostels, classrooms, and teacher and staff quarters.
- Funding Allocated: ₹77.94 crore dedicated to the development of educational facilities, with provisions for furniture and fixtures, as well as renovations of existing structures.
Additionally, the government has proposed the establishment of Tribal Multipurpose Marketing Centres (TMMCs) designed to enhance market access, skill development, and mentoring support for Minor Forest Produce (MFP) gatherers and tribal artisans. This proposal has a budget of ₹200 lakh with two units approved.
Key Components for 2024-2026
The appraisal process for submitted proposals for the fiscal years 2024–25 and 2025–26 has been completed. Notable components of the approved proposals include:
- Financial Year 2024–25: Establishment of a Centre of Competency, costing ₹3.48 crore.
- Financial Year 2025–26: Comprehensive plans amounting to ₹82.90 crore include the construction of classrooms, tribal hostels, TMMCs, and support for the Strengthening Forest Rights Act (FRA) Cell at both state and district levels.
These initiatives align with the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that tribal communities receive the necessary resources and infrastructure to thrive. Fund releases are executed in accordance with established guidelines and financial regulations as mandated by the Ministry of Finance.
