Government Addresses West Asia Situation in Key IGoM Meeting

On March 28, 2026, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh convened the inaugural session of the Informal Empowered Group of Ministers (IGoM) to assess the changing landscape in West Asia and formulate proactive strategies in response to the emerging developments. The meeting took place at Kartavya Bhawan-2 in New Delhi and was attended by several prominent ministers, including Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, Shri Kiren Rijiju, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Shri Manohar Lal, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Shri Prahlad Joshi, Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, and Dr Jitendra Singh.

Holistic Review and Proactive Measures

The IGoM conducted a comprehensive review of the unfolding situation and its implications for various sectors in India. Singh highlighted the necessity for a proactive and coordinated approach while emphasizing the importance of vigilance amid the ongoing crisis.

Guidance and Coordination

During the meeting, representatives from seven Empowered Groups of Secretaries (EGoS) presented their analyses of critical sectoral issues and the policy measures currently in place to address them. Shri Rajnath Singh directed the EGoS to persist in their close monitoring efforts, adopt a medium to long-term preparedness strategy, and ensure swift decision-making through high-level coordination. He underlined that all policy initiatives should be executed synergistically and within established timelines.

Emphasis on Information Sharing

The IGoM reaffirmed the necessity of effective coordination with state and district administrations, stressing the need for timely communication of critical policy initiatives to the public. Discussions also revolved around evaluating the ongoing situation’s impact on various industries. Moreover, all Ministries and Departments were directed to share relevant updates and advisories connected to the current scenario through the MIB WhatsApp Channel, enhancing the dissemination of accurate information while countering misinformation.

Following the meeting, Raksha Mantri took to social media to reinforce the government’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to protect the Indian populace from any adverse effects arising from the conflict.
