Game Developers Conference Unveils Innovative Handheld Consoles

At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2025 in San Francisco, three new handheld gaming consoles were announced, showcasing cutting-edge technology and design. The standout device, OneXSugar, features a unique dual-screen setup, while Ayaneo introduced two additional models: the Pocket S2 and the Gaming Pad. All three consoles are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip, promising enhanced gaming experiences with ray tracing support.

Introducing OneXSugar: A Dual-Screen Gaming Experience

The OneXSugar is a groundbreaking Android gaming console that boasts a 6.01-inch primary display and a 3.92-inch secondary screen. This innovative design allows the secondary display to rotate, providing versatility for gamers. The console features controllers that are connected to the screens via a hinge, enhancing the overall gaming experience. However, it is important to note that the OneXSugar is not expected to support Windows games, focusing instead on Android titles.

Under the hood, the OneXSugar is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 System on Chip (SoC), which includes one prime core, five performance cores, and two efficiency cores. This new chip offers a significant boost in performance, with a reported 30% increase in CPU capabilities compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2. Additionally, the Adreno A32 GPU provides a 28% performance enhancement, ensuring smooth graphics and gameplay. The device also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, making it a robust option for gamers.

Ayaneo Pocket S2: Compact Powerhouse

The Ayaneo Pocket S2 is another exciting addition to the handheld gaming market. It features a 6.3-inch 2K IPS LCD TrueColor screen, housed within a sturdy metal frame. The console is designed with non-detachable controllers on either side of the screen, ensuring a seamless gaming experience. The Pocket S2 also includes upgraded hall joysticks and linear triggers, enhancing precision and control during gameplay.

Like the OneXSugar, the Ayaneo Pocket S2 is powered by the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip, promising high performance for mobile gaming. However, details regarding the battery life and charging specifications have yet to be disclosed. This model is expected to appeal to gamers seeking a compact yet powerful device for on-the-go gaming.

Ayaneo Gaming Pad: A Larger Gaming Experience

The Ayaneo Gaming Pad rounds out the trio of new handheld consoles with its impressive 8.3-inch 1440p “gaming-grade” IPS LCD screen, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate. This larger display is designed to provide an immersive gaming experience, making it suitable for both casual and competitive gamers. The Gaming Pad also includes a rear camera and a cooling vent, which are essential for maintaining performance during extended gaming sessions.

Similar to the other two devices, the Ayaneo Gaming Pad is powered by the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip. While the company has not yet revealed battery and charging details, it has indicated that the Gaming Pad will support various game controllers and computer peripherals, further enhancing its versatility as a gaming device.
