Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union minister for Road Transport and Highways, approved the Draft GSR Notification for Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program), which will give automobiles in India a Star Rating based on their crash test results.

According to him, Bharat-NCAP will act as a consumer-centric platform, allowing customers to choose safer cars based on their star ratings, while promoting a healthy competition among OEMs to make safer cars.

He said Star Rating of Indian Cars Based on Crash Tests is extremely crucial, not just to ensure structural and passenger safety, but also to increase the resale value of Indian cars. Testing protocol for Bharat NCAP shall be aligned with Global Crash Test Protocols, factoring in the existing Indian regulations, allowing OEMs to have their vehicles tested at India’s in-house testing centers.
