Farmers to Benefit from Record Pulse and Oilseed Procurement

In a significant boost for farmers across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved remarkable proposals for the procurement of pulses and oilseeds at Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Rabi 2025-26 season. This initiative aims to secure fair prices for the agricultural produce of countless farmers, alleviating their burden of selling crops at minimal prices.

Procurement Plans in Haryana

For the state of Haryana, the minister has greenlit the procurement of an impressive 13,082 metric tonnes of gram and 3,60,528 metric tonnes of mustard at MSP. This procurement falls under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and is expected to amount to over Rs 2,312.12 crore, enriching the income of gram and mustard producers in the region.

Uttar Pradesh’s Support for Farmers

In Uttar Pradesh, the government has received approval for the procurement of 2,24,000 metric tonnes of gram for the Rabi 2026 season, with an estimated MSP value of Rs 1,316 crore. The state has also seen the full demand for 6,77,000 metric tonnes of masoor being approved. The expected MSP value for masoor stands at a substantial Rs 4,739 crore, calculated at Rs 70,000 per metric tonne. Additionally, the procurement of 5,30,000 metric tonnes of mustard has been sanctioned, boasting an MSP value of Rs 3,286 crore, which is calculated at Rs 62,000 per metric tonne.

Karnataka’s Kusum Procurement

Turning to Karnataka, Minister Chouhan has approved a proposal for the procurement of kusum (safflower) during the Rabi 2025-26 season. The state will see 6,923 metric tonnes of kusum produced and purchased at MSP, with the value pegged at Rs 65,400 per metric tonne. This decision results in a total MSP value of approximately Rs 45.27 crore, providing much-needed support to local farmers.

Empowering the Agricultural Sector

The approved procurement under the PSS for Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka signifies a crucial step toward enhancing food security and empowering the agricultural sector in India. The measure will ensure that farmers receive just compensation for their harvests, reinforcing the government’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to boost the production of oilseeds and pulses while fortifying nutritional security in the nation.

Additionally, with the already robust framework for POS-based procurement established in these states, transparent payments to farmers are guaranteed, ensuring that the benefits are felt across the farming community.
