Experts Gather to Explore Quantum Technologies in Modern Warfare

The Second Niche Technology Nexus (NTN) Seminar was hosted by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) on March 16, 2026, in New Delhi. This event, centered around the theme ‘Cognitive Spectrum Operations and Quantum Technologies,’ brought together a mix of leaders from the Defence Forces, academia, industry, start-ups, and research institutions. The goal of the seminar was to explore recent technological advancements and innovative strategies within these critical fields.

Emphasizing the Need for Advanced Technologies

Addressing the seminar attendees, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), stressed the growing significance of effective spectrum utilization as well as adaptive communication networks. He noted that the rise of quantum capabilities is reshaping the landscape of modern warfare. Dixit highlighted how Cognitive Spectrum Operations, which make use of Artificial Intelligence and advanced analytics, can enhance dynamic spectrum access and improve electromagnetic spectrum awareness, ultimately bolstering the electronic warfare capabilities of Defence Forces.

Transformative Potential of Quantum Technologies

Air Marshal Dixit also discussed the transformative potential of Quantum Technologies, specifically in fields such as secure communications, quantum sensing, navigation, and timing systems. He emphasized the essential role these technologies could play in reinforcing national Defence capabilities in the near future. The Air Marshal underlined the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to fast-track innovations and foster the development of indigenous solutions in these niche areas.
