Establishment of ITIs Under Skill Development Program

The latest data released by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship reveals a comprehensive overview of the number of Government and Private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across various states and Union Territories in India. The report highlights the total number of ITIs, along with the number of candidates trained under the Craftsmanship Training Scheme (CTS) from the academic sessions of 2014-15 to 2024-25. This information was shared by Minister of State (Independent Charge) Shri Jayant Chaudhary in a written response to the Lok Sabha.

Distribution of ITIs Across States

The report provides a detailed breakdown of the number of Government and Private ITIs in each state and Union Territory. For instance, Andhra Pradesh leads with a total of 519 ITIs, comprising 85 Government and 434 Private institutions. In contrast, Arunachal Pradesh has only 7 ITIs, all of which are Government-run. The data indicates a significant disparity in the availability of vocational training institutions across the country, which may impact the skill development of the workforce in various regions.

The overall total of ITIs across India stands at 14,615, with 3,316 being Government institutions and 11,299 Private ones. This distribution underscores the reliance on private institutions for vocational training, especially in states like Bihar, where the number of Private ITIs (1,219) far exceeds Government ones (150). Such trends raise questions about accessibility and quality of training provided in these institutions.

Training Statistics Under CTS

The report also sheds light on the number of candidates trained in ITIs under the Craftsmanship Training Scheme (CTS) from 2014-15 to 2024-25. The total number of candidates trained across the country is an impressive 13,738,692. Andhra Pradesh again stands out, with 581,584 candidates trained, highlighting the state’s commitment to skill development.

Other states with notable training figures include Maharashtra, which trained 1,262,781 candidates, and Uttar Pradesh, with 2,971,004 candidates. These statistics reflect the effectiveness of the CTS in enhancing vocational skills among the youth, contributing to the overall employability in the country. However, the data also indicates that some states, such as Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, have significantly lower training numbers, which could hinder local economic growth.
