Reaffirming its commitment to national defence, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has supplied the entire 4000 tonnes of special steel for India’s 6th Indigenous Frigate, “Vindhyagiri”The frigate ship is part of Project P17A initiative undertaken by the Indian Navy and was built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE). smt. Draupadi Murmu, Honorable President of India, is expected launch the frigate on August 17, 2023.

Steel supplied by SAIL for frigate ‘Vindhyagiri’ includes DMR 249A grade HR Sheets and Plates.

As part of Project P17A, a vital effort involving the launch of seven vessels, the upcoming launch of ‘Vindhyagiri’ marks the successful construction of the sixth vessel. SAIL’s involvement in this ambitious project further exemplifies the company’s ongoing dedication to fostering local growth and innovation in the Indian defense sector.

This significant milestone also comes on the heels of SAIL’s notable contribution to the commissioning of INS Vikrant, the nation’s pride and joy, where SAIL supplied the entire 30,000-ton of special steels for the construction of aircraft carriers.
