Enhancing Pensioner Welfare in India
In a significant move to support senior citizens, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh recently launched the 12th Pension Adalat. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs vision of a humane and citizen-centric administration. The government aims to ensure dignity, ease of living, and financial security for pensioners. Dr. Singh emphasized that the Pension Adalat not only expedites grievance redressal but also reinforces the government’s commitment to recognizing pensioners as valuable contributors to society.
A New Era of Governance for Pensioners
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the transformative changes in governance under Prime Minister Modi. He stated that pensioners no longer face bureaucratic delays or lengthy waits for justice. The government is dedicated to making their lives easier through policy reforms and digital interventions. This shift in governance reflects a more humane and responsive system, ensuring that pensioners receive timely assistance.
Since the inception of Pension Adalats in 2017, the initiative has addressed a total of 25,416 cases across 12 sessions. Out of these, 18,157 cases have been successfully resolved by various ministries and departments. In the latest session, 192 cases were taken up by the Department of Pension & Pensionersโ Welfare (DoPPW), with 151 cases resolved on the spot. This efficiency underscores the government’s commitment to delivering timely justice to pensioners.
Real Stories of Relief and Support
The Pension Adalat has brought relief to many pensioners who faced long-standing issues. Dr. Singh shared several cases that illustrate the initiative’s impact. For instance, Dr. Arvind Kumar, a retired Associate Professor from the Indian Military Academy, faced financial difficulties due to pending administrative actions. After filing his grievance on the CPENGRAMS portal, the Pension Adalat ruled in his favor, ensuring the release of โน26.75 lakh for his urgent medical treatment.
Similarly, Ms. Anita Kanik Rani had been denied her family pension for 20 years due to a succession certificate dispute. The Pension Adalat expedited her case, leading to the sanction of โน22 lakh in arrears. Other pensioners, like Ms. Nirmala Devi and Ms. Geeta Devi, also benefited from the initiative, receiving overdue financial adjustments and corrections to their pension entitlements.
Commitment to Digital Reforms and Trust
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that pension reforms extend beyond financial settlements. They aim to restore trust in the system. He noted that these cases reflect the government’s commitment to a governance model that is efficient and compassionate. Pensioners are not merely beneficiaries; they are valued citizens who have contributed significantly to the nation.
The government is also pushing for digital reforms to simplify pension processes. Innovations such as face authentication for digital life certificates eliminate the need for pensioners to visit offices physically. Dr. Singh remarked that with rising life expectancy, pensioners should be viewed as assets to the nation rather than dependents. The government is committed to ensuring their financial security while recognizing their ongoing contributions to society.
Acknowledging Dedicated Efforts
Dr. Jitendra Singh commended Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary of DoPPW, and his team for their dedicated efforts in resolving long-pending pension grievances. Their work has brought various departments together under one platform, enabling real-time resolution of cases that have lingered for decades. This collaborative approach has significantly improved the efficiency of the Pension Adalat.
