Enforcement Task Force Reviews Air Quality Violations in NCR
The 125th meeting of the Enforcement Task Force (ETF) convened by the Commission for Air Quality Management focused on air quality enforcement in the National Capital Region (NCR). Held on February 6, 2026, the meeting evaluated the inspection activities conducted over a 16-day period from January 20 to February 4, 2026, targeting various contributors to air pollution.
During this reporting period, the Flying Squads of the Commission carried out a total of 739 inspections across key sectors, revealing significant violations. Specifically, there were 52 inspections in the Construction & Demolition (C&D) sector, 680 in the industrial sector, and 7 related to Diesel Generator (DG) units. Out of these inspections, a total of 336 violations were documented, with 34 from the C&D sector, 229 from industrial activities, and 5 for non-compliance with DG set regulations.
Inspection Findings and Proposed Actions
The ETF proposed closure for 21 units and sealing of 53 DG sets. Additionally, Show Cause Notices (SCNs) were issued to two entities, while examination of 63 cases is ongoing. Special attention was given to road dust management, highlighted by inspection drives in Greater Noida and Gurugram, which assessed mechanical sweeping and dust mitigation compliance.
Progress on Enforcement Activities
In a broader context, the Enforcement Task Force reviewed the cumulative enforcement status as of February 6, 2026. The Flying Squads have inspected a total of 25,975 units and projects to date. Notably, 1,661 closure orders have been issued due to non-compliance, with 1,278 of those units later receiving resumption orders after verifying their compliance. Furthermore, 123 cases have been referred to the respective State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) for resolution, while the status of an additional 260 entities remains under review.
Call for Enhanced Vigilance
The Commission emphasized the importance of sustained enforcement actions, stressing the need for quick follow-up on violations and collaborative efforts among all agencies involved. There was a clear call to enhance on-ground vigilance and ensure timely corrective measures by implementing authorities to tackle air pollution effectively throughout the NCR.
