Empowering Women: Skill Manthan Launches Focus on Sustainable Livelihoods
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has initiated a groundbreaking platform called ‘Skill Manthan’, aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods for women across India. The inaugural virtual session spotlighted successful initiatives from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut and Bijnor, as well as from NTR District in Andhra Pradesh. These projects exemplify how district administrations can effectively blend skill development, entrepreneurship, finance, and technology to enhance economic opportunities for women.
During the event, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, emphasized the pivotal role of district administrations in driving local growth and reform. He noted, “District administrations are the true engines of growth, reform and transformation. Through our district-led planning approach, we are ensuring that skilling initiatives are driven by local needs and aligned with the requirements of industry, particularly MSMEs.” This indicates a strong commitment to tailoring skill development initiatives to the specific requirements of local economies.
Local Leaders Showcase Innovative Solutions
Secretary of MSDE, Smt. Debashree Mukherjee, reinforced the importance of hyperlocal skilling, stating that aligning training programs with district needs is crucial for connecting youth to viable employment opportunities in today’s fast-paced economy.
Representatives from various districts presented their innovative strategies for empowering women. Ms. Jasjit Kaur from Bijnor introduced ‘Vidur Prerna Swadeshi’, a platform designed to support rural women entrepreneurs through improved branding, market access, and enterprise assistance. Meanwhile, Meerut unveiled a women-centric manufacturing model that focuses on training and employment in the production of badminton rackets and shuttlecocks.
NTR District presented its RISE initiative, a comprehensive ecosystem that merges skill training, financial facilitation, mentorship, and employment connections to bolster women-led businesses. The session effectively demonstrated how local institutions can collaborate to foster sustainable economic opportunities for women.
Commitment to Grassroots Innovation
The Skill Manthan initiative aims to enhance collaboration between the MSDE and district administrations by establishing a national framework for documenting and replicating successful grassroots models. This concerted effort supports women’s economic participation and contributes to the broader vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, aiming to create self-reliant communities.
