Empowering Artisans: MoU Signed Between MSME and Amazon

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has taken a significant step in boosting the presence of traditional artisans by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon Seller Services Private Ltd. This partnership is designed to enable artisans enrolled in the PM Vishwakarma Scheme to access online markets, enhance visibility for their products, and expand their customer base nationwide. The MoU was inked at Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi, with representatives from both the MSME sector and Amazon in attendance.
About the PM Vishwakarma Scheme
Launched on September 17, 2023, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme aims to provide comprehensive support to traditional artisans. The initiative focuses on improving product quality through skill training and providing modern toolkits. Furthermore, it seeks to enhance the market reach of artisans, facilitate access to credits, and preserve traditional skills that have been passed down through generations.
Collaboration Details
Through this MoU, Amazon will work closely with the MSME Ministry to assist artisans engaged in various traditional crafts, including carpentry, pottery, metalsmithing, goldsmithing, sculpture, tailoring, and more. The collaboration aims to facilitate the onboarding of eligible artisans onto Amazon’s online marketplace, thereby offering them a wider platform for selling their handmade goods.
As part of the partnership, the Ministry of MSME will provide support in obtaining necessary approvals, registrations, and clearances required by existing regulations. This effort will not only increase the visibility of handmade products but will also promote the rich heritage of Indian handicrafts through Amazon’s _Karigar_ initiative, which focuses on the digitization of artisans.
Promoting Traditional Crafts
The collaboration signifies a pivotal movement towards enhancing the digital footprint of traditional artisans. By leveraging e-commerce platforms, artisans will be able to market their products not just on a national level, but globally. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of _Viksit Bharat_ (Developed India) and Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), aiming to empower grassroots artisans and craftsmen.
Participation at the Amazon Smbhav Summit
Recently, beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme showcased their crafts at the Amazon Smbhav Summit held on December 10, 2025, in New Delhi. The summit provided an excellent opportunity for sellers interested in the PM Vishwakarma Scheme to learn more about the initiative and explore ways to support Vishwakarma artisans.
