DRI seizes 1.698 kg of cocaine worth Rs. 16.98 crore at IGI Airport

Continuing the crackdown on drug trafficking, in another operation, the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) managed to capture a Kenyan passenger, who arrived yesterday from Nairobi, at the IGI airport in New Delhi.

After oral questioning, the passenger denied carrying any contraband. However, the examination of the suspect’s luggage by DRI agents resulted in the recovery of approximately 1,698 grams of cocaine, estimated to be worth around Rs. 17 crore in the illicit international market. She was found in possession of a plane ticket for a flight to Mumbai which was due to depart a few hours later, indicating that the contraband delivery should have taken place in Mumbai.

After prolonged interrogation and surveillance, a meticulously planned operation by DRI agents resulted in the successful arrest of the recipient of the contraband drug. The recipient, a Kenyan national, was arrested in the Vasai area of ​​Mumbai.

Both the carrier and the consignee were arrested in accordance with provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) 1985. Further investigations are ongoing.

In January-July 2023, DRI carried out 42 seizures of cocaine and heroin across the country. More than 31 kg of cocaine and 96 kg of heroin were seized by DRI agents in January-July 2023.
