DRDO and Indian Navy Achieve Milestone with ADC-150 Trials
In a significant advancement for naval logistics, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted four in-flight release trials of the indigenous Air Droppable Container, known as ADC-150. These trials took place from February 21 to March 1, 2026, off the coast of Goa, showcasing the system’s capabilities under various extreme release conditions.
The ADC-150 is a cutting-edge solution designed to deliver payloads of up to 150 kilograms. Its primary objective is to enhance the operational logistics of the Indian Navy, enabling rapid response for naval vessels in distress that require critical stores, equipment, or medical assistance while deployed in blue waters far from land.
Collaboration among Key Defence Labs
The trials were coordinated by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory located in Visakhapatnam, which acted as the nodal laboratory for this innovative initiative. The parachute system that enables the air delivery of the ADC-150 was developed by the Aerial Delivery Research & Development Establishment based in Agra. Furthermore, the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification in Bengaluru played a crucial role by providing flight clearance and certification for the new system. The Defence Research & Development Laboratory in Hyderabad supported the trials with essential instrumentation.
Rapid Development and Future Induction
Developed to meet specific requirements of the Indian Navy, the ADC-150 system for the P8I aircraft was designed and qualified in a remarkably short timeframe. With the successful completion of all developmental flight trials, the ADC-150 is on track for induction into the Indian Navy in the near future. This timely introduction is expected to significantly bolster the Navy’s efficiency in responding to emergencies at sea.
