Doodle celebrates Türkiye National Day 2024

Today, Google Doodle celebrates Türkiye National Day 2024! On October 29 each year, people across Türkiye celebrate Republic Day to remember a historic moment in 1923. On this day, the Grand National Assembly officially declared Türkiye a republic, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who led the country’s independence movement, became the nation’s first president.

To honor the founder of the Republic, state officials and citizens visit Anıtkabir, Atatürk’s mausoleum in Ankara, to lay wreaths and pay their respects. People also gather in the streets and stadiums for celebrations, and in the evening, they join special walks to mark the day.

The Turkish flag, with its red and white colors, flies proudly across the country — just like in today’s Google Doodle art. At night, spectacular fireworks light up the sky, adding even more excitement to the celebrations.

Happy Republic Day, Türkiye!

About Türkiye National Day

Republic Day in Turkey, known as Cumhuriyet Bayramı in Turkish, is celebrated on October 29th each year. It commemorates the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey on October 29, 1923, following the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. This day marks a significant milestone in Turkey’s history, as it symbolizes the establishment of a modern, secular, and democratic nation-state under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey.

The proclamation of the Republic of Turkey represented a shift from the Ottoman imperial system to a modern republic, marking a departure from traditional monarchy and the implementation of significant political, social, and cultural reforms. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first President of Turkey, played a pivotal role in the transformation of Turkey into a secular and democratic nation, introducing various reforms that modernized the country’s political and legal systems, education, and social structure.
