Divya Kala Mela Showcases Talent of Persons with Disabilities

Concluding today at Kartavya Path, India Gate, the nine-day Divya Kala Mela has successfully highlighted the potential and skills of persons with disabilities. Organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, this year’s event ran from December 13 to 21, 2025, providing a vibrant platform for Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from across India.

The 28th edition of the Mela celebrated a year full of accomplishments since the initiative’s inception at the same venue in December 2022. With more than 2,362 Divyang participants across its 28 editions, the Mela has generated significant economic activity, contributing over ₹23 crore to the economy. This year, around 100 artisans and entrepreneurs from 20 states participated, showcasing a variety of products including home décor, organic foods, and handicrafts, which saw sales exceeding ₹2 crore.

Strengthening Employment and Entrepreneurship

The event also focused on boosting employment prospects for Divyang individuals. A dedicated job fair on December 16 attracted 157 youth, with 99 securing interviews and several receiving immediate job offers from well-known companies. Additionally, the National Divyang Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) lent support, approving loans surpassing ₹1.05 crore to assist budding Divyang entrepreneurs. In a bid to enhance independence, ALIMCO distributed assistive devices to participants.

Cultural Celebrations and Inclusivity

The closing day featured the engaging “Divya Kala Shakti” cultural program, where talented Divyang artists from the Delhi-NCR region performed music and dance, reminding audiences that creative expression knows no physical boundaries. An Experience Zone allowed visitors to engage in adaptive sports, including Blind Cricket and Boccia, deepening their understanding of both the challenges faced and the capabilities of persons with disabilities.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and NDFDC thanked Delhi’s citizens, local administration, and Kartavya Path authorities for their support in making this event a success. They affirmed their commitment to continue organizing such initiatives across the country to foster a more inclusive society, empowering Divyangjan as equal contributors to India’s growth journey.
