DEPwD Institutions Hold Nationwide “Run for Unity” to Commemorate Sardar Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, marked the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a series of events celebrating National Unity Day. The initiative, themed “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” saw enthusiastic participation from thousands of individuals, including Divyangjan, students, faculty, and officials. The celebrations included “Run for Unity” events, pledge ceremonies, and cultural programs, all aimed at honoring the legacy of the Iron Man of India.
Tributes and Pledges at DEPwD Headquarters
At the DEPwD headquarters in New Delhi, Secretary Shri Rajesh Aggarwal led the tribute to Sardar Patel by laying floral offerings. He emphasized Patel’s visionary leadership and the importance of unity in the nation. During the ceremony, Shri Aggarwal administered the National Unity Pledge, encouraging attendees to commit to upholding the values of unity and integrity that Patel championed. Nationwide “Run for Unity” Events
Across the country, various DEPwD institutions organized vibrant “Run for Unity” events. In New Delhi, the PDUNIPPD hosted a run from Rajghat to the Red Fort, attracting over 300 participants. The ISLRTC commemorated the day with a unity pledge and tribute ceremony. At SVNIRTAR in Olatpur, more than 700 individuals, including persons with disabilities and their caregivers, participated in the run. Meanwhile, NIEPID in Secunderabad celebrated with children, parents, and staff through unity runs, poster-making, and slogan-writing activities. CRC Nellore embraced the theme “Ek Bharat, Atmanirbhar Bharat” with a unity run and orientation session, further highlighting the spirit of unity across the nation.
Regional Celebrations and Community Engagement
Regional CRCs also actively participated in the celebrations, organizing unity runs, rallies, and art activities. CRC Ranchi, Balangir, Gorakhpur, Davanagere, Tripura, Sundernagar, and Chhatarpur were among the centers that engaged their communities in these events. In Balangir, Shri S.N. Mallik, Additional Superintendent of Police, inspired participants to embody Sardar Patel’s ideals. CRC Gorakhpur collaborated with the IMA and DDRC to conduct a unity run to the Sardar Patel Statue. In Davanagere, over 250 participants waved the national flag and chanted slogans promoting unity and self-reliance. Additionally, CRC Chhatarpur observed Vigilance Awareness Week, where local officials highlighted the importance of integrity and unity as foundational elements of national strength.

The synchronized celebrations across DEPwD institutions reflected a powerful spirit of inclusion, patriotism, and unity. From the capital to remote regions, the “Run for Unity” events became a symbol of inclusive nationalism, paying homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s enduring legacy of unity in diversity.
