Delhi Police Strengthened with New Initiatives on 79th Raising Day
In a significant ceremony held in New Delhi, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, celebrated the 79th Raising Day of the Delhi Police today. Joined by esteemed dignitaries, including Delhi Police Commissioner Shri Satish Golchha, the event highlighted the pivotal role of the Delhi Police in maintaining peace and order in the nation’s capital.
Shri Amit Shah commended the Delhi Police for its unwavering commitment to service and justice since its inception. He emphasized that as the heart of India’s democracy, Delhi requires a security framework that meets global standards. The Home Minister recognized the substantial responsibilities of the Delhi Police, particularly due to the presence of key government offices and international events held in the city.
New Facilities and Projects Unveiled
During the ceremony, the foundation stone for the Special Cell’s integrated headquarters was laid, a project with a budget of approximately ₹368 crore. This modern facility aims to enhance the capabilities of the Delhi Police in combatting narcotics and terrorism. The headquarters will feature advanced amenities such as an indoor firing range, a cyber laboratory, and training facilities, positioning it as a model for police operations nationwide.
Additionally, the Union Home Minister announced the initiation of ten new projects for the Delhi Police and the inauguration of the first phase of the Safe City Project. With an investment of around ₹857 crore, this phase includes a state-of-the-art Integrated Command, Control, Communication and Computer Centre (C4I), and a significant enhancement in surveillance capabilities with over 2,100 live cameras and plans to integrate more into the system.
Reforming the Justice System
Shri Amit Shah also highlighted recent advancements in the country’s legal framework, particularly the enactment of three new Nyaya Sanhitas aimed at overhauling archaic laws and instituting a more justice-centered system. The Home Minister noted that these reforms will drastically reduce delays in the justice process, allowing for a final resolution of FIRs within three years.
Among the updates, a new focus on crimes against women and children was introduced, along with the legal backing for electronic and digital records. The incorporation of community service as a form of punishment for minor crimes represents a progressive step in law enforcement.
Looking Ahead
Looking to the future, Shri Amit Shah underscored the Ministry of Home Affairs’ plan to enhance national security through an extensive network of CCTV cameras across India. He reiterated the commitment to modernize security measures at all land borders and to continue the effective implementation of the newly established laws.
With landmark policies and infrastructure projects underway, the Union Home Minister expressed confidence that these efforts would lead to unprecedented improvements in internal security and ultimately, justice, marking a transformative period for the country.
