Delhi Official Inaugurates First Health Centre in Paatalkot Tribal Valley

In a significant move to enhance access to healthcare for tribal communities, Dr. Rashmi Choudhary, Assistant Commissioner of the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), inaugurated a new healthcare center in the remote Paatalkot valley of Chhindwara district. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in last-mile delivery of essential government services. The center will serve the Gond and Bharia tribes, who have long faced challenges in accessing basic medical facilities due to their isolated location.
Healthcare Access in Paatalkot
Paatalkot, a secluded valley in the Tamia block, is home to approximately 4,000 residents spread across 12 villages. The local Gond and Bharia tribes are classified as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). For years, these communities have struggled with limited access to healthcare, often having to traverse steep paths to reach medical facilities. The inauguration of the healthcare center marks a pivotal moment for these residents, who can now receive medical attention without the burden of long-distance travel.
Dr. Choudhary’s visit to Paatalkot was driven by the urgent need for healthcare services in the area. During her discussions with villagers in Sindhouli and Rated, she learned about the issues surrounding the non-functional Ayushman Arogya Kendra, which had been ready for use but remained inactive. In response, she instructed health officials to activate the center immediately, leading to its official opening on September 27, 2025.
Government Initiatives and Community Development
The establishment of the healthcare center is part of broader government initiatives aimed at improving living conditions for tribal communities in Paatalkot. Programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, Dharti Abba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, and Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan have already made strides in enhancing infrastructure, including roads, housing, drinking water, electricity, and education. Children from Paatalkot now attend the Eklavya Residential School in Tamia, and tourism-related homestay projects in Chimtipur have opened new economic opportunities for locals.
Despite these advancements, healthcare remained a critical issue. The new center is expected to alleviate some of the healthcare burdens faced by the community. Health authorities have confirmed that the center is now fully operational, equipped with staff and essential medical facilities, ensuring that residents can access necessary healthcare services without delay.
Community Reactions and Future Prospects
The response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive. A villager from Sindhouli expressed gratitude, stating, โThis is a historic day for Paatalkot. For the first time, our people will not have to walk miles for basic medical needs.โ This sentiment reflects the broader hope that the healthcare center will significantly improve the quality of life for residents.
The development is seen as a turning point in Paatalkotโs journey from deprivation to empowerment. It underscores the government’s commitment to reaching even the most remote areas with essential services. The establishment of the healthcare center is expected to foster a healthier community, enabling residents to focus on education and economic development without the constant worry of healthcare access.
Monitoring and Implementation
Shri Ajeet Srivastava, Commissioner of NESTS and State Prabhari Officer for Madhya Pradesh, has been closely overseeing the implementation of the Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan. His active involvement ensures that the initiatives aimed at improving the lives of tribal communities are effectively executed. The successful inauguration of the healthcare center is a testament to the collaborative efforts of government officials and local communities in addressing long-standing issues.
As Paatalkot moves forward, the hope is that this new healthcare facility will serve as a model for similar initiatives in other remote areas, ultimately contributing to the overall development and well-being of tribal populations across the region.
