Defence Acquisition Council Approves ₹79,000 Crore in Military Enhancements
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given the green light for significant procurement initiatives for the Indian Armed Forces, totaling approximately ₹79,000 crore. In a meeting held on December 29, 2025, the Council approved the Acquisition of Necessity (AoN) for various advanced systems aimed at bolstering the capabilities of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Key Enhancements for the Indian Army
Among the approved proposals for the Indian Army is the procurement of a Loiter Munition System designed specifically for artillery regiments. This system will provide precision strikes on tactical targets, enhancing operational effectiveness. Additionally, Low Level Light Weight Radars will be employed to detect and track small, low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), ensuring greater awareness in the battlefield.
Moreover, the long-range guided rocket ammunition for the Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) will significantly augment both the range and accuracy of artillery strikes, critical for engaging high-value targets. The Integrated Drone Detection & Interdiction System Mk-II will further safeguard the Army’s vital assets within tactical battle areas and hinterlands with its improved operational range.
Strengthening Naval Operations
For the Indian Navy, the DAC approved the procurement of Bollard Pull (BP) tugs, High Frequency Software Defined Radios (HF SDR) Manpack systems, and the leasing of High Altitude Long Range (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). The introduction of BP tugs will assist naval vessels with berthing and unberthing, enhancing maneuverability in confined waters.
The HF SDR systems will provide secure long-range communication capabilities, crucial for coordinated operations during boarding and landing. Meanwhile, the HALE RPAS will facilitate continuous intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions over the Indian Ocean Region, enhancing maritime domain awareness.
Advancements for the Indian Air Force
In a move to boost aerial capabilities, the Indian Air Force received AoN approval for several key acquisitions. These include the Automatic Take-off Landing Recording System, Astra Mk-II missiles, a Full Mission Simulator, and SPICE-1000 long-range guidance kits. The new Automatic Take-off Landing Recording System is expected to enhance aerospace safety by providing high-definition, all-weather recordings of flight operations.
The Astra Mk-II missiles will expand the operational range of fighter aircraft, allowing them to neutralize enemy threats from greater distances. Additionally, the Full Mission Simulator for the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas will provide cost-effective and safe training for pilots, while the SPICE-1000 system will improve the IAF’s long-range precision strike capabilities.
