CSIR-NIScPR Trains Aspiring Science Writers in New Delhi
New Delhi, 8 August 2026 – The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) successfully hosted a two-day Skill Training Program on “Popular Science Writing” on 6-7 August 2026. Under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative (Phase III), this program aimed to enhance the science communication skills of researchers, academicians, scientists, students, IT professionals, and R&D personnel. A total of 21 participants from across the nation gathered to improve their abilities in conveying complex scientific concepts in an engaging manner.
Program Inauguration and Objectives
The program was officially opened by Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director of CSIR-NIScPR, who emphasized the importance of presenting scientific research in a clear and captivating way. Her encouragement aimed to promote a scientific temper among the populace and to bridge the existing gap between the scientific community and society at large. Mr. Mukesh A. Pund, Head of the Training Division at CSIR-NIScPR, welcomed the attendees and highlighted how popular science writing can significantly enhance the societal impact of scientific discoveries.
Expert Insights and Interactive Sessions
The program included a series of expert lectures and interactive sessions led by renowned figures in the field. Keynote speaker Ms. Neha Tripathi introduced participants to the Basics of Popular Science Writing and Creative Formats. Dr. Bornali Sarma provided insights on transforming research articles into compelling popular science stories. An interesting session was presented by Dr. Matiur Rahman, who discussed how to leverage AI for creating impactful social media content. Participants engaged in a practical workshop with NDTV’s Science Editor, Shri Pallav Bagla, focusing on Science Writing for Digital Media.
Additionally, Dr. Meher Wan, Scientist-D, explained the art of crafting press releases that effectively communicate scientific findings and events. Dr. Manish Mohan Gore rounded off the program by discussing the ethical considerations and career opportunities available in popular science writing. Throughout the training, there were numerous interactive discussions and exercises, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience in effective science communication.
Program Wrap-Up and Future Commitments
The program culminated in a valedictory session where Mr. Mukesh A. Pund addressed the attendees and distributed certificates to participants, alongside the program team. The successful execution of this program reflects CSIR-NIScPR’s dedication to building a community of skilled science communicators and promoting excellence in science communication through initiatives under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative.
