CSIR Celebrates 83rd Foundation Day with Vision for India’s Future

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) celebrated its 83rd Foundation Day today with great pride and excitement. This special occasion marked not just a celebration of the organization, but also a reflection on the crucial role CSIR plays in building the future of India. Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, praised CSIR for its contribution to the country’s growth and its mission to help India become a strong, innovative, and unstoppable nation.

Vice President Dhankhar’s Speech on India’s Growth

At the event, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his admiration for CSIR’s work. He called CSIR the “Catalyst for a Scientifically Imaginative Rashtra” and highlighted how the organization is helping strengthen the foundations of India’s democracy and its future. He said, “CSIR is not just celebrating its Foundation Day, but it is also solidifying the firm foundations of Bharat (India). You are strengthening the pillars of one of the most vibrant democracies in the world.”

The Vice President also suggested that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) be set up to ensure investments in research lead to valuable and impactful results for the country.

Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh’s Vision for CSIR

During the event, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, also shared his thoughts. He praised CSIR for playing a vital role in promoting scientific growth in India. He mentioned that CSIR is helping India become a global leader in science by supporting women in science and encouraging innovations that benefit society.

Dr. Singh said, “CSIR is a true National Treasure and a changemaker of our time. Its work in green hydrogen technology and agriculture-based start-ups is making a big difference in the lives of Indian farmers and common people.” He mentioned that one great example of CSIR’s impact is lavender farming in Jammu and Kashmir, which has transformed the area into a hub for Agri-based entrepreneurship.

CSIR’s Commitment to Making India a Developed Nation by 2047

Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, the Director General of CSIR, welcomed everyone to the event and talked about how CSIR is working hard to help make India a developed nation by 2047. She shared that CSIR recently organized a leadership conclave to gather ideas from visionary leaders. These ideas will be used to create a roadmap for the future.

Importance of Technology and Innovation

Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, shared an inspiring quote from India’s former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: “Economic development is powered by competitiveness. Competitiveness is powered by knowledge. Knowledge is powered by technology and innovation.” He added that all of this is built on fundamental science, showing how important it is to support scientific research and innovation.

CSIR Foundation Day Lecture by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan

The CSIR Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, the former Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). He spoke on the topic of “Team Excellence and Indian Space Odyssey”. In his speech, he explained how Indian space research has grown, thanks to the hard work and teamwork of dedicated scientists, leading to the success of India’s space missions.

Release of the Book “Innovation Trailblazers”

A special book titled “Innovation Trailblazers: The Leadership Legacies of CSIR” was released at the event. This book celebrates the leadership and innovation that have shaped CSIR’s journey over the years.

CSIR Energy Saving Campaign Awards

The winners of the CSIR Energy Saving Campaign were also announced at the event. Three CSIR laboratories were honored for their efforts in saving energy. CSIR-CGRI won first prize, CSIR-CECRI took second prize, and CSIR-CSMCRI secured third prize.

Vice President Dhankhar Inaugurates CSIR Thematic Exhibition 2024

One of the highlights of the celebration was the inauguration of the CSIR Thematic Exhibition 2024 by Vice President Dhankhar. This exhibition, held at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC) in New Delhi, showcased the work of various CSIR laboratories. Each lab displayed their technologies under different themes as part of the #OneWeekOneTheme Campaign. The exhibition emphasized how CSIR’s work aligns with the goal of a “Viksit Bharat @2027” (A Developed India by 2027).
