Commercial Operations Commence at Multi Modal Logistic Park in Nagpur

Under the Prime Minister Gati Shakti initiative, the Multi Modal Logistics Park Limited (MMLP) in Nagpur has officially begun its commercial operations. This facility aims to enhance connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services across various transport modes, ultimately improving last-mile connectivity and reducing travel times. Guided by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, MMLP Nagpur is set to establish a faster logistical link in the region.

Inauguration and Initial Operations

The MMLP Nagpur, developed by the National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), marked a significant milestone by receiving its first rake of 123 Maruti cars from Ex-Farukhnagar on April 28. This event signifies the operational readiness of the facility and its potential to streamline logistics in the area. The park is strategically located in Sindi, near Wardha, and is designed to facilitate efficient transportation and logistics services.

Investment and Development Plans

The development of MMLP Nagpur is a collaborative effort under a Public-Private Partnership model, with an estimated investment of Rs. 673 crore. An agreement has been signed with a private developer to establish the park over 150 acres in three phases. The first phase will see an investment of Rs. 137 crore, laying the groundwork for future expansions. The Maharashtra MMLP Pvt. Ltd., a special purpose vehicle formed between NHLML and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), will oversee the project, ensuring the provision of essential infrastructure such as land, rail and road connectivity, and utilities.

Facilities and Services Offered

MMLP Nagpur is set to offer a wide range of facilities aimed at enhancing logistics efficiency. These include warehouses, cold storage, intermodal transfer points, and handling facilities for container and bulk cargo. Additionally, the park will feature value-added services such as sorting, grading, and customs facilities. Support logistics facilities, including offices for freight forwarders and transporters, as well as truck terminals, will also be available. This comprehensive setup is designed to cater to the diverse needs of the logistics sector.

Impact on the Logistics Sector

The establishment of MMLP Nagpur is expected to significantly improve the freight logistics sector in India. By enabling efficient inter-modal freight movement, the facility aims to reduce overall freight costs and transit times. Enhanced warehousing capabilities and improved tracking of consignments will further boost the efficiency of the logistics sector. Moreover, the project is anticipated to create numerous employment opportunities and stimulate economic development in the region, contributing to the broader goals of the Gati Shakti initiative.
