Civil Services Day 2026: A Commitment to Citizen-Centric Governance

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) is set to celebrate the 18th Civil Services Day on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, will be the Chief Guest and deliver the keynote address.
Civil Services Day is an annual occasion that empowers civil servants across India to reaffirm their dedication to the citizens they serve and to excellence in public administration. This significant day marks the anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s address to the probationers of the All India Administrative Service in 1947, where he famously referred to civil servants as the ‘steel frame of India.’ The event is a milestone for civil servants to reflect upon their roles in promoting citizen-centric governance.
Theme for 2026: Viksit Bharat
The theme for Civil Services Day 2026 is “Viksit Bharat: Citizen-Centric Governance and Development at the Last Mile.” This theme aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transparent, accountable governance that prioritizes the needs of citizens and inclusive development. The focus will be on enhancing last-mile delivery, ensuring that benefits reach every citizen without delay.
Breakaway Sessions: Innovative Discussions on Governance
The day’s activities will also include four breakaway sessions that delve into key governance priorities. Notably, the session titled **’Sustainable Livelihood through PM Vishwakarma’** will be chaired by Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Hon’ble Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
This session will commence with a welcome address from Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner from the Ministry of MSME. Following this, participants will be greeted, and there will be a presentation focusing on the PM Vishwakarma initiative. The session aims to foster a guided discussion with key stakeholders, including Secretaries from various ministries such as MSME, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and others.
Panelists will share their insights on how to strengthen sustainable livelihoods for traditional artisans, offering a platform for collaboration and innovative ideas. The session will conclude with an address from the Secretary of MSME and will feature closing remarks by Ms. Anuja Bapat, DDG from the Ministry of MSME.
As Civil Services Day approaches, it serves not only as a reminder of the vital role of civil servants but also as an opportunity to stir collective action towards a responsive and accountable governance framework that meets the aspirations of the citizens of India.
