Chief of Army Staff paid a two-day visit to Bangladesh

General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), paid a two-day visit to Bangladesh from 05 to 06 June 2023. During the visit, the Army Chief will meet with Bangladesh’s senior military leadership where will discuss ways to further improve Indo-Bengali defense relations.

On June 6, COAS will review the 84th Long Course Officer Cadets Passing Out Parade (POP) at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), Chattogram. During the parade, the Chief of the Army will present the ‘Bangladesh India Friendship Trophy’ established for the Best Foreign Student (from Friendly Foreign Countries) of the BMA Passing Out Course. The first trophy, this year, is awarded to officer cadet Everton of Tanzania. This trophy is in exchange for the ‘Bangladesh Trophy and Medal’ established at Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun in December 2021 for the best foreign cadet fainting course. In particular, the Army Chief will review POP at IMA, Dehradun on 10th June 2023 and present Bangladesh medal and trophy.

Other engagements by the Chief of Army include formal interactions with the Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army and Chief Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, as well as briefing senior Bangladeshi military officers on matters of bilateral cooperation.

COAS visited Bangladesh in July 2022, on his first overseas visit after his hiring as army chief. The Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff visited India in April this year and reviewed the swoon parade at Officer Training Academy, Chennai. Frequent visits by senior military leaders and bilateral cooperation events such as joint military exercises help improve military-to-military relations between the two nations.
