The Indian chemicals and petrochemicals sector is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s technological landscape, according to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal. Speaking at the 7th Indian Chemicals and Petrochemicals Conference organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Goyal emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering balanced growth that benefits all societal segments. He also highlighted the International Monetary Fund’s recent upward revision of India’s growth forecast, showcasing the country’s economic resilience and potential for innovation.

He noted the International Monetary Fund’s recent adjustment of India’s growth projection for 2025 to 6.6 percent, up from 6.4 percent. This revision underscores the country’s robust economic fundamentals and resilience in the face of global challenges. Goyal pointed out that advanced nations achieve their status through a commitment to technology and innovation, urging India to adopt a similar approach to meet its developmental aspirations. While some products may require domestic protection for self-reliance, the sector must remain integrated with global markets to achieve sustainable growth.

Shri Goyal elaborated on India’s strategic approach to integrating with global economies while ensuring domestic industries remain competitive. He emphasized the necessity of engaging with international markets to explore trade opportunities and attract investment. The government is actively negotiating free trade agreements with various countries, including Mauritius, the UAE, and Australia, aimed at opening markets for Indian products and fostering collaboration in innovation-driven sectors. Goyal stressed the need to balance global integration with domestic industry protection, ensuring that Indian businesses can compete internationally while safeguarding the interests of consumers.
