Central Advisory Committee to Boost PM-AJAY Initiatives
A hybrid meeting of the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY) is set to take place on June 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM. The event will be chaired by Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, in Manthan Hall, New Delhi. This meeting aims to assess the progress of PM-AJAY and discuss strategies for enhancing the socio-economic development of Scheduled Caste (SC) communities across India.
The significance of the meeting lies in its focus on strengthening the implementation of the PM-AJAY scheme, ensuring that more eligible beneficiaries can access its benefits. Attendees will include State Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from various States and Union Territories, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, and representatives from key Union Ministries such as Finance, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Women and Child Development, among others.
Focus on Key Components and Achievements
During the meeting, the committee is expected to conduct a thorough review of the three components of PM-AJAY: Adarsh Gram, Grant-in-Aid, and the Hostel Component. The discussions will prioritize identifying best practices, tackling implementation challenges, and enhancing coordination among stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of the scheme’s objectives.
Since its launch in the 2021-22 fiscal year, PM-AJAY has positively impacted many Scheduled Caste communities. Over 2.56 lakh beneficiaries have benefited from the Grants-in-Aid component, more than 10,600 individuals have received support under the Hostel component, and 14,080 villages have been designated as Adarsh Grams, significantly enhancing the quality of life for countless residents through various development interventions.
Aiming for Continued Progress
The deliberations are expected to include strategies for reaching the milestone of transforming around 32,000 remaining selected villages into ‘Adarsh Grams’. The CAC will also discuss boosting skill development and employment opportunities by fostering partnerships with industries, government agencies, and training institutes. Expanding outreach, encouraging community participation, ensuring timely project implementation, and enhancing monitoring mechanisms will be crucial topics for maximizing developmental outcomes in SC-majority areas.
The outcomes of this meeting will provide essential policy guidance and recommendations aimed at fortifying the implementation of PM-AJAY and driving socio-economic advancement for Scheduled Caste communities throughout India.
