Celebrating India’s Skilled Entrepreneurs on Republic Day

On the occasion of the 76th Republic Day, a significant event took place at Kaushal Bhawan. Shri Jayant Chaudhary, the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, honored 100 distinguished entrepreneurs from India’s skill ecosystem. This celebration recognized their vital contributions to the nation’s growth and innovation under the Skill India Mission. The entrepreneurs were also special guests at the Republic Day parade, highlighting their importance in driving India’s economic progress.
Insights from the World Economic Forum
Shri Chaudhary returned from the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos, where he engaged with global business leaders. He shared valuable insights from these discussions, emphasizing the global recognition of India’s skilled workforce. “Indiaโs skilled workforce is gaining immense global recognition,” he stated. He noted that the country is emerging as a global skill capital, showcasing its commitment to excellence.
The discussions at Davos focused on sustainability and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. There was also a strong emphasis on women-led development. These conversations reflect a growing awareness of the need for innovative solutions to global challenges. By fostering a skilled workforce, India positions itself as a leader in addressing these issues. The Minister’s insights underline the importance of skill development in creating a sustainable future for the nation.
The Power of India’s Start-Up Ecosystem
India boasts the largest start-up ecosystem in the world, with 118 unicorns valued at an impressive $354 billion. This remarkable success is attributed to visionary policies, effective execution, and the resilience of entrepreneurs. The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector plays a critical role in this landscape. It comprises 63 million enterprises, employing over 11 crore people and contributing 30% to the GDP and 45% to exports.
The transformative impact of the Skill India Mission is evident in the empowerment of youth and the promotion of self-reliance, also known as AtmaNirbhar Bharat. Shri Chaudhary commended the entrepreneurs present at the event for their contributions to elevating India’s reputation as a source of skilled talent. He emphasized that the participation of these 100 entrepreneurs at a national celebration highlights the success of skilling initiatives. These programs have empowered individuals across the country, creating sustainable livelihoods and inspiring others to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.
Honoring Trailblazing Entrepreneurs
Among the honored entrepreneurs, special recognition was given to Ritendra Prasad from Jharkhand. With a degree in Electricals and Electronics, he has a decade of experience in the solar energy sector. After completing an Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) from NIESBUD, he established his own solar business. His journey exemplifies the potential of skill development to transform lives.
A notable highlight of the event was the recognition of 16 trailblazing entrepreneurs from the Northeast, including nine women. Among them were Mrs. Namita M. Marak from Assam and Mrs. Mandira Baglary from Udalguri district. These women were celebrated for their resilience and success despite facing significant challenges. Their stories illustrate the transformative power of skill development and entrepreneurship, particularly for women in rural and underserved areas.
Reflecting on the Constitution’s Legacy
During the event, Shri Chaudhary also reflected on the enduring legacy of the Indian Constitution. He emphasized its role as the backbone of India’s democratic ethos, safeguarding equality, justice, and opportunity for all citizens. The event was attended by staff and top officials from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, including Joint Secretary Ms. Hena Usman. Earlier, the 100 entrepreneurs visited the PM Museum, further enriching their experience.
This celebration marked a proud moment for India, showcasing the strength of government initiatives and the achievements of its skilled workforce.
