CBIC and Field Formations Successfully Complete Special Campaign 5.0

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) has launched Special Campaign 5.0, running from October 2 to October 31, 2025. This initiative emphasizes cleanliness, effective record management, and the responsible disposal of electronic waste in accordance with the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022. The campaign has led to significant achievements, including the disposal of large quantities of e-waste and the organization of numerous cleanliness events across various locations.

Significant Achievements in E-Waste Disposal

During the campaign, the CBIC made notable strides in e-waste management. The NACIN Faridabad and CGST Faridabad successfully disposed of a variety of electronic items, including 178 monitors, 70 CPUs, and 88 printers, among others. This effort aligns with the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022, aimed at reducing environmental impact. Additionally, a comprehensive record management drive was conducted across 606 CBIC offices, resulting in the review of 41,055 files, from which 23,743 physical files were eliminated. The campaign also saw the review and closure of 1,054 electronic files out of 4,398 reviewed. These actions not only streamline operations but also contribute to a cleaner environment.

Community Engagement and Cleanliness Initiatives

The CBIC organized around 1,200 cleanliness events in office premises and public areas, significantly enhancing community engagement. These events generated approximately Rs. 5.29 lakh from the disposal of 22,728 kg of scrap, including 8,801 kg of e-waste, which helped free up 43,009 square feet of office space. Furthermore, the campaign included the safe destruction of around 250 kg of narcotic drugs and foreign-origin cigarettes valued at approximately Rs. 1,011 crores. Such initiatives not only promote cleanliness but also ensure public safety by eliminating hazardous materials.

Best Practices and Environmental Preservation

The campaign also highlighted best practices implemented across various Customs and GST offices. Officers participated in cleanliness drives at significant heritage sites, including Sarkhej Roja in Ahmedabad and Purana Quila in Delhi. Beach cleaning activities were conducted at Karwar and Panambur beaches by Bangalore Customs, while Mumbai GST & CX focused on Chinchani beach. These efforts reflect a commitment to preserving national heritage and promoting environmental sustainability. Additionally, tree plantation drives were organized to beautify office premises and surrounding areas, further enhancing the campaign’s environmental focus.

Promoting Awareness and Future Sustainability

To amplify the campaign’s impact, CBIC shared approximately 250 posts on social media platforms, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and the initiatives undertaken during the campaign. The organization aims to maintain the momentum gained during this period, ensuring that the principles of cleanliness and environmental responsibility are upheld throughout the year. CBIC’s proactive approach to citizen grievance redressal has also been recognized, securing first place in the grievance redressal system of CPGRAMS for the third consecutive time. This commitment to transparency and accountability reinforces CBIC’s dedication to serving the public effectively.
