CBFC Demands Cuts in 23 Scenes of Baaghi 4 Despite ‘A’ Rating

Tiger Shroff’s upcoming film, Baaghi 4, has garnered attention for being his first ‘A’ rated movie, primarily due to its graphic violence and bloodshed. Despite receiving this adult-only certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the film faced scrutiny, leading to the removal of 23 scenes as mandated by the board. The film is set to release worldwide on September 5, following its certification on August 26.
CBFC’s Stringent Cuts
The CBFC’s Examining Committee (EC) imposed significant cuts on *Baaghi 4*, which included both visual and audio edits. Among the notable deletions was a scene featuring the protagonist standing on a coffin, as well as a shot where a character lights a cigarette from a ‘niranjan diya.’ This particular one-second shot was deemed inappropriate. Additionally, a scene depicting a character rubbing their hand on a girl’s hip was altered, and a frontal nude scene was obscured by the board.
The committee also targeted scenes with graphic violence, removing multiple instances of throat slashing and hand severing. A sequence that involved a character throwing a knife at a statue of Jesus Christ was cut, along with a scene where a fist impacts the statue. The board’s cuts extended to a particularly violent 11-second segment, which depicted excessive brutality, and a scene where a sword is plunged into a character’s skull was also eliminated.
Audio Edits and Dialogue Changes
In addition to visual cuts, the CBFC mandated several changes to the film’s dialogue. The offensive term ‘bhang b*****a’ was replaced, while other words like ‘b****e’ and ‘fingering’ were substituted with more appropriate language. A line that included the word ‘condom’ was muted, and another dialogue was altered from ‘Tera wajood hi mit jaayega God’ to ‘Sab dekhte reh jayenge.’ Furthermore, a line expressing intimidation was removed entirely, and another was muted for appropriateness.
These changes were necessary for the film to secure its ‘A’ rating, which allows it to be screened for adult audiences. The final runtime of *Baaghi 4*, after these edits, is 163.50 minutes, or 2 hours, 43 minutes, and 50 seconds.
Further Edits Post-Certification
Just days after receiving its certification, the makers of *Baaghi 4* approached the CBFC again to request additional cuts. This resulted in the shortening of 19 scenes, ultimately trimming the film’s length by 6 minutes and 45 seconds. The final runtime now stands at 157.05 minutes, or 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 5 seconds. This decision marks *Baaghi 4* as the third film in recent times to undergo voluntary cuts after receiving certification, following *War 2* and *The Bengal Files*.
As anticipation builds for the film’s release, it remains to be seen how audiences will respond to the changes made by the CBFC and the overall content of *Baaghi 4*.
