CBFC Cuts Cuss Words in Anurag Kashyap’s Lengthiest Film ‘Nishaanchi’; Includes a 58-Second Post-Credit Scene
2 ½ years after the release of Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat, acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap returns to the big screen with his latest project, Nishaanchi. This crime comedy features newcomer Aaishvary Thackeray in a dual role and has garnered attention for its unique promotional material and catchy songs. However, fans of Kashyap may be disappointed to learn that Nishaanchi has faced significant cuts from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a recurring issue for the director.
CBFC Cuts and Modifications
*Nishaanchi* has not suffered any visual cuts, allowing all action, romantic, and violent scenes to remain intact. However, the CBFC’s Examining Committee mandated modifications to certain foul language used in the film. Specifically, the committee requested changes to a particular expletive in six instances, along with additional modifications to other cuss words in six more scenes. Following these adjustments, *Nishaanchi* received a U/A 16+ certificate on August 21, with a total runtime of 176.48 minutes, making it nearly three hours long.
On September 5, the filmmakers approached the CBFC again to voluntarily implement further changes. They added a new song titled *Saram Lagela*, which runs for 2 minutes and 14 seconds, along with a post-credit scene lasting 58 seconds. Additionally, a six-second slate indicating “End of part 1” was included, and the logos of Zee Music Company and Amazon Prime Video were incorporated, adding 17 seconds to the film’s length.
Changes to the Film’s Content
Further alterations were made to *Nishaanchi*’s content. The opening credit titles were replaced, and the song *Ee Manwaa*, which lasted 39 seconds, was deleted in favor of background music. Another song, *Sunday Ke Maar*, was swapped out for *Tohara Naam Dil Pe*. Overall, these changes resulted in a reduction of 39 seconds from the film, while the filmmakers added a total of 3 minutes and 35 seconds of new footage.
As a result, the final runtime of *Nishaanchi* now stands at 179.44 minutes, or 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 44 seconds. This makes it the longest film ever directed by Anurag Kashyap, a notable achievement for the filmmaker known for his distinctive storytelling style.
Anticipation and Reception
*Nishaanchi* has generated considerable buzz in the lead-up to its release, particularly due to its unconventional promotional strategies and the involvement of a fresh face like Aaishvary Thackeray. The film’s quirky marketing has piqued the interest of audiences, and the addition of new music and scenes is expected to enhance the viewing experience.
As the release date approaches, fans and critics alike are eager to see how Kashyap’s latest work will be received. The film’s unique blend of crime and comedy, coupled with its extended runtime, sets the stage for an intriguing cinematic experience. With the backing of prominent figures in the industry, including Salman Khan, who has extended his best wishes to the team, *Nishaanchi* is poised to make a significant impact upon its debut.
