CAQM Launches Major Air Quality Inspection in Nuh, Haryana
On January 2, 2026, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) conducted a significant inspection operation in Nuh, Haryana, as part of its ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with environmental regulations in the National Capital Region (NCR). This operation involved the deployment of ten flying squad teams tasked with assessing air quality norms within both conforming and non-conforming industrial sectors in the district.
The inspection operation was organized in collaboration with local authorities, including deputy commissioners and duty magistrates, alongside officials from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB). To ensure a smooth inspection process, police personnel were also deployed to support the teams on the ground. The areas targeted for inspection were determined by the district administration.
A total of 105 sites were assessed during this thorough operation, including five construction and demolition (C&D) sites and 100 industrial units. Among the inspected industrial facilities were 86 stone crushers, five tyre pyrolysis plants, five ready mix concrete plants, three hot mix plants, and one screening and washing plant.
It is noteworthy that these inspections occurred under the existing Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which remains in effect throughout NCR due to ongoing air quality concerns. In line with the rules established under GRAP, nearly all the inspected industrial units and C&D sites were found to be non-operational, closed, or dismantled. However, violations concerning diesel generator (DG) sets were identified at three units, contravening Direction No. 76 set forth by the Commission.
The CAQM highlighted that stringent enforcement actions are crucial for curbing non-compliance and reducing emissions at their source, thereby providing relief to communities living near non-compliant industrial activities. These enforcement measures are essential to ensure that industries and construction sites adhere to established environmental standards, reducing their impact on air pollution in the region.
This operation in Nuh is part of CAQM’s broader enforcement initiative, which emphasizes enhanced monitoring during GRAP periods. The efforts are coordinated closely with state governments, district authorities, and related agencies in the NCR to bolster air quality management in the region.
