BSNL’s Transformative Year: Record Growth and Performance Highlights
The annual performance of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the fiscal year 2025-26 was thoroughly examined at the Strategic Review and Planning Meet (SRPM) held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Chaired by Union Minister of Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the meeting featured distinguished attendees including Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, and senior officials from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), alongside BSNL’s top management and Chief General Managers from across India.
In his address, the Union Minister characterized BSNL’s achievements as “transformative,” highlighting the company’s successful shift from being a 3G services provider to a competitive 4G player. This shift plays a vital role in the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, marking India’s entry into an elite group of just five nations globally capable of developing complete indigenous telecom capabilities.
Performance Metrics and Revenue Growth
During the meeting, a comprehensive review was conducted on BSNL’s operational metrics, including Quality of Service (QoS), expansion of the subscriber base, enhancement of Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), and the achievement of key revenue milestones. Notably, the Minister applauded BSNL’s financial and technical advancements, particularly a remarkable increase in ARPU, which soared to Rs. 101 for FY 2025-26, compared to Rs. 71 the previous year—a substantial year-on-year growth of 42%.
Recognizing Top-Performing Circles
The SRPM also celebrated the achievements of outstanding telecom circles and business verticals. The Odisha Circle was awarded for being the “Overall Best Performing Circle” due to its balanced excellence, reporting an impressive 21% revenue growth. Additionally, the Odisha Circle was recognized as a leader in the Enterprise Business segment with an astonishing 68% year-on-year revenue growth.
Moreover, Karnataka Circle received accolades for significant EBITDA growth, while Assam and Jharkhand demonstrated positive growth across all business segments. Uttar Pradesh (East) and Jharkhand were also acknowledged for their noteworthy improvements in FTTH ARPU.
Future Focus for FY 2026–27
The Union Minister stressed the importance of continued focus, accountability, and strict monitoring at the circle level. He encouraged all Chief General Managers to adopt the best practices demonstrated by high-performing circles to sustain momentum, enhance customer experience, and ensure continued financial success. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration with telecom equipment manufacturers to fortify the domestic ecosystem and solidify India’s status as a global leader in indigenous telecom technology.
