BRICS Ministers Forge New Path in Transport Cooperation

The 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting recently wrapped up in Nagpur, Maharashtra, under India’s leadership of BRICS Chairship 2026. This key gathering, held on July 11, 2026, aimed to enhance transportation collaboration among member nations. Prior to this, the Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Transport Working Group convened on July 9-10, where officials diligently prepared the agenda and framework for the upcoming discussions.

The meeting’s highlight was the unanimous adoption of a Ministerial Declaration, outlining a collective commitment to a variety of priority areas, including circular infrastructure, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonization, urban mobility hubs, logistics supply chain cooperation, and the establishment of a BRICS Railway Research Network.

During the proceedings, the Transport Ministers and Heads of Delegation emphasized a collaborative approach that embodied the principles of mutual respect and equality that define BRICS. Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, expressed gratitude to all delegates for their contributions, which played a pivotal role in achieving a successful outcome at the Ministerial meeting.

India acknowledged the constructive input from all BRICS member nations, which was crucial for the fruitful conclusion of the discussions. Moreover, India reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that these initiatives smoothly transition into the next BRICS Chairship.

The meeting was a gathering point for Transport Ministers, senior officials, and technical experts from BRICS countries. It featured a comprehensive four-day program, including the Senior Officials’ Meeting, the Transport Ministers’ Meeting, and various bilateral talks. In addition, cultural presentations highlighted the rich diversity among BRICS nations, enriching the experience and promoting stronger interpersonal and institutional ties among participating delegations.
