Bharat Forge Secures Landmark Arms Contract with Indian Defence Ministry
Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) has recently made significant strides in India’s defence sector by securing its largest Small Arms contract to date. The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded BFL a contract worth Rs. 1,661.9 crores for the supply of 255,128 CQB (Close Quarters Battle) Carbines, marking a pivotal development in the nation’s military capabilities.

Signed on December 30, 2025, this contract underscores the collaborative efforts between BFL and India’s premier defence research institution, the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This joint initiative has successfully produced an indigenously designed and developed compact firearm in the 5.56 x 45 mm caliber range.

The agreement specifies that the execution of the contract will take place over a period of five years, during which Bharat Forge aims to complete the delivery of all CQB Carbines.
