In order to facilitate the seamless transfer of vehicles during the transfer of stations in the country, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has published GSR 594 (E) dated August 26, 2021 in which a new registration mark has been incorporated referred to as the “Bharat (BH) series” in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. This came into force as of 15 September 2021. In an effort to further improve and broaden the scope of the BH series, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways published GSR notification 879 (E ) on the 14thth December 2022, and amended the rules governing the Bharat (BH) series registration mark, in which vehicles currently with regular registration mark of eligible persons can also be converted to the BH series registration mark.

The Bharat (BH) series was implemented as part of the VAHAN application developed by NIC. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notice dated 02na December 2021 for BH Series Registration and is implemented in a total of 26 States/UTs to date. Implementation of the Mid Motor Vehicle Regulations 1989 is the responsibility of the State Governments Administration/UT.
