Bajaj Auto Partners with DGT to Boost Skill Development

In a notable advancement for skill development in India, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has signed a Flexible Memorandum of Understanding (Flexi-MoU) with Bajaj Auto Ltd., a premier player in the automotive sector. This partnership aims to enhance industry-driven training initiatives and foster closer collaboration between the government and industry players.

Industry Training Opportunities Expand

Through this Flexi-MoU, Bajaj Auto will take on the role of an Industry Training Partner (ITP), providing National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)-aligned, industry-integrated training programs at its manufacturing facilities located in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. In its first year, the company is set to invite 1,000 trainees to engage in structured training programs spanning up to 24 months. These programs will combine theoretical classroom learning with hands-on experience using advanced manufacturing systems.

Government Officials Praise the Initiative

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. He stated, “I welcome this partnership as an important step towards strengthening industry-linked skilling in India. Initiatives like these reflect how our skilling ecosystem is evolving to become more closely aligned with the needs of industry.” He emphasized that connecting training with real production environments significantly enhances the job readiness of young individuals.

The signing ceremony featured prominent officials including Smt. Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of MSDE, and Shri Dilip Kumar, Director General of DGT. They underscored the necessity of strengthening industry partnerships to enhance demand-driven skilling. Representatives from Bajaj Auto including Shri Ravi Kyran Ramasamy, Chief HR Officer, were also present, highlighting the significance of this collaboration for youth training opportunities.

Details of the Flexi-MoU Scheme

The Flexi-MoU Scheme allows industries to design customized training aligned with emerging technologies and market demands while adhering to the NSQF framework. It mandates that participating organizations train a minimum of 100 trainees annually, conduct industry-driven assessments, and manage centralized computer-based examinations. Graduates successfully completing the training will receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC), paving the way for apprenticeship opportunities.

Bajaj Auto’s implementation plan includes training on cutting-edge automotive manufacturing systems covering areas such as production dojos, quality control, maintenance technologies, mechatronics, welding, assembly, and logistics management. All courses will be structured to adhere to industry standards and leverage the company’s existing training resources.

Long-Term Impact on Employability

The collaboration aims to fortify skill development in the automotive sector, improving employability through exposure to genuine production environments. It seeks to create sustainable career pathways for skilled technicians and foster a strong network of suppliers and vendors. Furthermore, with an emphasis on placement, the scheme stipulates that ITPs must ensure that at least 50% of successful trainees secure jobs.

Bajaj Auto has showcased a solid commitment to skill development, allocating 70-80% of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget to skilling initiatives. Through programs like Bajaj Engineering Skills Training (BEST) and Bajaj Manufacturing Systems (BMS), the company impacts over 90,000 students annually across the country.

Looking Ahead

This Flexi-MoU, which has a validity of ten years and may extend based on performance, represents a crucial milestone in the MSDE’s mission towards fostering a prepared workforce in line with India’s manufacturing aspirations and the national vision of a self-reliant and competitive India.
