Ayush Sector Unites for Progress at Chintan Shivir 2026

In a significant move toward enhancing the Ayush sector, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for Ayush and Health, presided over the valedictory session of the two-day Chintan Shivir–2026 in New Delhi. This national-level brainstorming session aimed at reinforcing policy, governance, and implementation strategies within the Ayush framework concluded successfully, echoing the government’s robust commitment to advancing holistic health practices.

During his address at the session, Minister Jadhav expressed his satisfaction with the fruitful discussions, emphasizing that the Shivir served as a testament to the government’s shared vision for the Ayush sector. He articulated that Ayush encompasses not merely treatment modalities but also a comprehensive approach to health and lifestyle, providing solutions to modern challenges, particularly those related to lifestyle diseases.

Integrating Ayush with Mainstream Healthcare

Highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary approach, Jadhav called for a seamless integration of Ayush with existing healthcare systems. He advocated for bolstered evidence-based research and improved digital health platforms, such as Ayush Grid and telemedicine services, particularly for rural populations. Furthermore, he urged for greater emphasis on entrepreneurship, innovation, and capacity building to fully realize the potential of the Ayush sector in line with the government’s vision for a developed India by 2047.

The second day of the Shivir featured a pivotal session dedicated to policy convergence and inter-ministerial coordination to enhance Ayush within public health. Dr. A. Raghu moderated the session, which included esteemed officials like Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Dr. Vinod Paul from NITI Aayog. They discussed a national framework for integrating Ayush with modern medicine to ensure Universal Health Coverage and align with the goals set for 2047.

Strategies for Enhanced Coordination and Accessibility

Ms. Srivastava pointed out the integration of Ayush into national health initiatives such as Ayushman Arogya Mandir, targeting critical areas like non-communicable diseases and maternal-child health, with a foundation in digital interoperability. Former Secretary Preeti Sudan contributed valuable insights on strengthening policy frameworks to enhance coordination and delivery of services.

Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, noted that the Chintan Shivir was a platform for reflective policy assessment and creating a robust roadmap for the future. He emphasized the overarching agreements reached during discussions on enhancing research credibility and global outreach while advocating effective communication strategies, particularly through digital mediums.

Key Initiatives and Future Directions

Among the noteworthy initiatives launched during the event were a memorandum of understanding between the All India Institute of Ayurveda and the General Insurance Council to broaden insurance coverage for Ayush treatments, and the unveiling of a dedicated WhatsApp channel for the Ministry. A toll-free number (1800-11-0008) was also established for support relating to Ayush insurance.

The fifth session focused on entrepreneurship and capacity development, highlighting the role of Mission Karmayogi in transforming governance through effective learning and skill enhancement. Experts emphasized the importance of adopting fresh learning approaches to cultivate a future-ready workforce capable of addressing leadership, communication, and administrative challenges.

Closing on a high note, the Chintan Shivir brought together policymakers and sector stakeholders to discuss integral topics such as education, research, service delivery, digitalisation, and the importance of robust communication to build a healthier and more engaged community in support of the Ayush sector.
