Axiom Mission 4 Achieves Successful Docking with International Space Station

Axiom Mission 4 has successfully reached the International Space Station (ISS) following its launch from Kennedy Space Center at 12:01 PM IST on June 25, 2025. The Dragon spacecraft, commanded by Peggy Whitson and accompanied by mission specialists Sล‚awosz Uznaล„ski-Wiล›niewski and Tibor Kapu, along with pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, is set to dock at the Harmony module on Thursday at 7 a.m. NASA flight engineers Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers will oversee the automated docking process and monitor the spacecraft’s maneuvers.

Dragon Capsule to Dock at Harmony Module on June 27

NASA has confirmed that after docking, the Ax-4 astronauts will meet the seven members of Expedition 73. The astronauts will participate in a safety briefing with the ISS residents. On Wednesday, McClain and Ayers, along with the rest of the crew, carried out their regular duties, which included conducting microgravity research and maintaining the laboratory. McClain worked on research hardware and processed samples in the Destiny lab module, capturing images for ground analysis. Meanwhile, Ayers focused on fluid physics studies in the Microgravity Science Glovebox, research that could enhance pharmaceutical manufacturing and 3D printing capabilities in space.

Expedition 73 Crew Prepares for Ax-4 Arrival with Routine Duties

In preparation for the arrival of the Ax-4 crew, NASA Flight Engineer Jonny Kim and Commander Takuya Onishi conducted tests on a specialized thigh cuff designed to counteract fluid shifts caused by prolonged space travel. The duo alternated wearing the biomedical device in the Columbus lab module, utilizing ultrasound scans and measuring various health metrics, including blood pressure and heart rate, to assess the cuff’s effectiveness in maintaining crew health.

Scientific Research and Biomedical Tests Continue Aboard the ISS

Veteran cosmonaut Sergey Ryzhikov began his shift in the Zvezda service lab module, where he replaced computer components and charged batteries for scientific experiments. He also activated an Earth observation camera. NASA flight engineer Alexey Zubritskiy reorganized cargo within the Nauka science module, disposed of trash, and prepared gear for departure from the Progress 90 cargo craft after a week in the Poisk module. Additionally, flight engineer Kirill Peskov cleaned the Nauka ventilation system and monitored radiation exposure data while the ISS orbited Earth.
