Awareness Event Features India’s National Bird and Sustainability
The EIACP Programme Centre, in partnership with WWF-India and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), is hosting a three-day event titled ‘The Peacock’s Call: Mission LiFE for a Greener Tomorrow’. It will take place from February 3 to 5, 2026, at Travancore House, New Delhi. The initiative aims to celebrate the ecological and cultural significance of the Indian peafowl, recognized as India’s National Bird, while promoting sustainable lifestyles and biodiversity conservation.
Union Minister Engages with Participants
On the opening day, the Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, attended the exhibition. He engaged with participants and expressed his support for the event, highlighting the connection between the Indian peafowl and the Mission LiFE initiative, which encourages public involvement in conservation efforts.
Inauguration Ceremony Highlights
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of prominent officials and leaders in conservation. Dr. G. Areendran, Coordinator of WWF EIACP PC-RP, welcomed attendees, with Ms. Lipika Roy providing introductory remarks. The joint secretary of MoEF&CC, Ms. Nameeta Prasad, delivered a thematic address, while Shri Ravi Singh, Secretary-General and CEO of WWF-India, attended as the Guest of Honour. The keynote address was delivered by Shri Sushil Kumar Awasthi, Director General of Forests and Special Secretary, MoEF&CC, marking the formal opening of the exhibition.
Engaging Activities for All Ages
Over the first two days, more than 2,000 visitors have participated in the exhibition, which attracts school students, youth, professionals, and members of the public. The event features a diverse array of educational activities, including:
- An interactive exhibition showcasing peacocks, biodiversity, and conservation efforts.
- Screenings of short films centered on Mission LiFE and peacock ecology.
- A selfie point and a visitor message board for Mission LiFE.
- Activities allowing attendees to make pledges to support Mission LiFE.
- Quizzes, origami, and poster-making competitions aimed at school students.
- Expert talks on peacock conservation, their habitats, and biodiversity beyond conservation areas.
Special sessions tailored for school students encourage environmental stewardship through engaging and interactive learning experiences that align with Mission LiFE principles.
Promoting Public Awareness
‘The Peacock’s Call’ aims to enhance public awareness regarding wildlife conservation and inspire environmentally responsible lifestyles. It highlights the ecological and cultural significance of India’s National Bird as a beacon of harmony between culture and nature. The event will continue on its final day, February 5, 2026, with further educational sessions and public engagement activities.
