Apple Launches 27-Inch Studio Display XDR Featuring Thunderbolt 5
Apple has unveiled two new desktop displays aimed at professionals in video, design, and coding. The refreshed Apple Studio Display and the newly launched Apple Studio Display XDR both feature advanced specifications designed to enhance productivity. With significant upgrades in camera technology, connectivity, and display performance, these monitors are set to cater to a wide range of creative and technical tasks.
Enhanced Features of the Studio Display
The updated Studio Display maintains its 27-inch 5K Retina panel while introducing several hardware improvements. A standout feature is the 12MP camera equipped with Centre Stage support, which ensures users remain centered during video calls. Additionally, the new Desk View support allows the camera to capture the workspace during meetings, enhancing collaboration. The monitor is also designed with a three-microphone array for clear voice capture and a six-speaker system that supports Spatial Audio, providing an immersive audio experience.
In terms of connectivity, the 2026 Studio Display supports Thunderbolt 5, enabling users to connect up to four displays in a daisy-chain configuration. This setup allows for a combined workspace of nearly 60 million pixels, significantly expanding the visual workspace for users. Furthermore, the monitor includes two additional USB-C ports for connecting accessories and charging devices. It can deliver up to 96W of power through the included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable, making it capable of quickly charging devices like the 14-inch MacBook Pro while simultaneously handling display output and data transfer.
Studio Display XDR: A Leap in Display Technology
Alongside the refreshed Studio Display, Apple has introduced the Studio Display XDR, which features a 27-inch 5K panel enhanced by a mini-LED backlight system. This model boasts 2,304 local dimming zones, allowing for improved control over brightness and contrast. The Studio Display XDR is capable of sustaining brightness levels of up to 1,000 nits in standard dynamic range (SDR) and peaks at 2,000 nits for high dynamic range (HDR) content. With a remarkable contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, this display configuration minimizes blooming effects and provides deeper blacks alongside controlled highlights.
The Studio Display XDR also includes a 120Hz refresh rate panel with Adaptive Sync technology. This feature automatically adjusts the refresh rate between 47Hz and 120Hz based on the displayed content, which helps reduce lag and enhances motion handling during tasks such as editing, animation, and gaming. Additionally, the monitor supports Adobe RGB and covers over 80 percent of the Rec. 2020 color space, making it an excellent choice for HDR video production and professional color grading.
Pricing and Availability in India
The standard Studio Display is priced at Rs. 1,89,900, while the education price is set at Rs. 1,77,900. The Studio Display XDR starts at Rs. 3,99,900, with an education price of Rs. 3,87,900. Both models are available in standard glass and nano-texture glass options, catering to different user preferences.
