Apple Enhances iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro with M5 Chip Upgrade
Apple has unveiled its latest innovations, including the M5 chip, which powers the new iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro. These devices are now available for pre-order, with shipping and in-store availability set for October 22. The M5 chip promises significant performance enhancements, boasting over four times the peak GPU compute performance compared to its predecessor, the M4. This advancement marks a substantial leap in AI capabilities for Apple silicon, according to the company’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, Johny Srouji.
Enhanced Performance Across Devices
The introduction of the M5 chip is a game-changer for Apple’s latest devices. The new iPad Pro, for instance, features up to 3.5 times the AI performance of last year’s model and is reported to be 5.6 times faster than the iPad Pro equipped with the M1 chip. This performance boost is complemented by the inclusion of Apple’s C1X cellular modem, which offers up to 50% faster cellular data performance. Additionally, the N1 chip enhances connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread. Users can also expect faster storage read and write speeds, along with improved charging capabilities, allowing for a 50% charge in approximately 30 minutes.
Apple aims to position the iPad Pro as a more laptop-like device, and with the upcoming iPadOS 26, users will benefit from more intuitive window displays, the new Preview app, and enhanced organizational features such as folder creation. The pricing for the new iPad Pro starts at $999 for the 11-inch model and $1,299 for the 13-inch version, available in black and silver.
MacBook Pro Upgrades
The newly announced 14-inch MacBook Pro is set to outperform its predecessor with significant upgrades. It features enhanced graphics performance, boasting improvements of up to 1.6 times better than the previous model. The memory bandwidth has also increased to 153Gbps, up from 120Gbps in the M4, which contributes to faster data processing. Users can expect improved storage speeds and an impressive battery life of up to 24 hours, making it a robust option for professionals and creatives alike. The starting price for the MacBook Pro is $1,599, and it is available in space black and silver.
Vision Pro’s New Features
The Vision Pro is also receiving the M5 chip, replacing the older M2 version. This upgrade enhances display rendering by 10% and supports refresh rates of up to 120Hz, an increase from the previous 100Hz. AI-powered features are now 50% faster, and the device’s battery life has been extended by an additional 30 minutes, providing up to 2.5 hours of general use and three hours of video playback. The upgraded Vision Pro includes a Dual Knit Band for improved comfort, available in small, medium, and large sizes. The price for the Vision Pro remains at $3,499.
