In a significant announcement, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has declared that Andhra Pradesh, alongside other coastal states, will play a crucial role in India’s evolving Blue Economy. This vision is rooted in the Prime Minister’s consistent calls for prioritizing the Blue Economy, particularly emphasized during his speeches from the Red Fort. The recent Union Budget for 2026–27 underlines this ambition by focusing on fisheries, marine exports, and coastal infrastructure as key components of the nation’s long-term economic strategy.
Strategic Roadmap for Viksit Bharat
Speaking to a gathering of media representatives and social media influencers in Vijayawada, Dr. Singh described the Union Budget as a strategic roadmap aimed at achieving a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047. He highlighted India’s commitment to stability and sustained growth in these times of global economic uncertainty. The focus on fisheries and marine development is expected to significantly enhance income potential for fishermen as part of this new economic direction.
Strengthening Fisheries and Infrastructure
Dr. Singh elaborated on plans to permit deep-sea fishing within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone and to recognize foreign port fish landings as exports. This policy shift is anticipated to boost food security and enhance India’s stature as a leader in the Blue Economy, particularly benefiting Andhra Pradesh, which boasts a long coastline and an established aquaculture industry.
The Minister also emphasized the modernization of reservoirs and the improvement of coastal fisheries infrastructure. Enhanced cold chain networks and processing facilities are planned to create a robust marine economy framework, integrating livelihoods, exports, logistics, and value addition, ultimately turning coastal states into significant drivers of national economic growth.
Industrial Corridors and Economic Architecture
Linking the Blue Economy initiative with the development of strategic industrial corridors across the country, Minister Singh pointed out that the Rare Earth and Critical Minerals Corridor in Andhra Pradesh is set to position the state as a leader in next-generation manufacturing and renewable energy components. Additionally, industrial corridors along the eastern coastline are expected to enhance logistics and integration into global supply chains.
Foundational Investments for Future Growth
Dr. Singh addressed necessary infrastructure support for Amaravati and ongoing investments in the Polavaram irrigation project, referring to them as essential for future productivity and water security. He underscored inclusive development, highlighting sectors such as agriculture, high-value crops, and support for women-led Self-Help Groups as vital components of the recent budget framework.
Concluding his address, Dr. Singh affirmed that the Union Budget 2026–27 propels India towards becoming a globally competitive, innovation-driven economy.
