Amay Khurasiya Resigns as Kerala Coach to Lead Chhattisgarh Cricket Team

Amay Khurasiya, the former head coach of Kerala’s cricket team, has announced his resignation after a successful two-year tenure that culminated in the team’s first-ever Ranji Trophy final appearance. Khurasiya, who is 53 years old, will now take on the role of head coach for the Chhattisgarh team in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. He expressed excitement about this new opportunity, describing it as a “fresh challenge” that he is eager to embrace.

Khurasiya’s Tenure with Kerala

During his time with the Kerala cricket team, Khurasiya played a pivotal role in transforming the squad’s performance. Under his guidance, Kerala reached the Ranji Trophy final for the first time in the 2024-25 season, marking a significant milestone in the team’s history. Reflecting on his experience, Khurasiya shared that he cherished the camaraderie and supportive atmosphere within the team. He emphasized the need for Kerala to find a mentor who can guide the players as they continue to develop their skills. His departure comes as his contract with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) expired, and KCA secretary Vinod Kumar confirmed that the decision was not linked to the team’s performance.

Khurasiya’s Impact on Kerala Cricket

KCA secretary Vinod Kumar praised Khurasiya for instilling a strong work ethic and professionalism within the team. He acknowledged that Khurasiya’s contributions have been significant in shaping the future of Kerala cricket. Kumar noted that the team’s campaign was hampered by injuries, which affected their performance last season. As a result, the KCA plans to issue an Expression of Interest to find a new coach, ensuring that the team continues to progress in the competitive landscape of Indian cricket.

Emerging Talents and Future Prospects

In his farewell remarks, Khurasiya highlighted some of the promising players from Kerala, including MD Nidheesh, who he described as a standout talent from the previous season. He also mentioned Eden Apple Tom, another young pacer with potential for further development. As Khurasiya transitions to his new role with Chhattisgarh, he aims to nurture emerging talents and strengthen the cricketing framework in the region. Chhattisgarh has yet to qualify for the Ranji Trophy knockouts, and Khurasiya’s focus will be on rebuilding the team and fostering a competitive spirit among the players. He expressed enthusiasm for the challenges ahead, indicating that he is ready to make a meaningful impact in his new position.
