Allahabad High Court Dismisses Challenge to Jolly LLB 3 Release, Reports Say

The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking to ban the release of the much-anticipated film Jolly LLB 3, featuring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. The plea, which claimed that the film’s song “Bhai Vakeel Hai” defamed the judiciary and the legal profession, was rejected by the court. The judges found no merit in the allegations, providing significant relief to the filmmakers as they prepare for the movie’s debut.

High Court’s Ruling on the Petition

A division bench of the Allahabad High Court, consisting of Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh, reviewed the petition and the song’s lyrics. They concluded that there was nothing objectionable that warranted interference. The court stated, โ€œWe do not see any material that warrants interference. After reviewing the lyrics of *Bhai Vakeel Hai*, we find nothing that could hinder the practice of the legal profession by genuine advocates.โ€ Consequently, the court dismissed the petition without imposing any costs, allowing the film’s release to proceed as planned.

Background of the Legal Challenges

The legal troubles for *Jolly LLB 3* began when a Pune court issued notices to Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi on August 20. This action followed a complaint from lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar, who alleged that the film ridiculed the judicial system and court proceedings. Bidkar’s petition specifically criticized a scene where judges are referred to as “mamu,” a term he deemed inappropriate. The court has scheduled a hearing for the actors to appear on September 28 to address these concerns.

In addition to Bidkar’s complaint, the film faced scrutiny earlier in May 2024 when Chandrabhan, the President of the Ajmer District Bar Association, filed a separate complaint. He claimed that the film portrays the judiciary in a negative light, describing the depiction of lawyers and judges as “humorous and indecent.” Chandrabhan requested the court to halt the shooting of *Jolly LLB 3*, expressing concerns about the filmmakers’ respect for the dignity of the judiciary.

Previous Installments and Production Details

The *Jolly LLB* franchise began with its first film released in 2013, followed by a sequel in 2017. The original starred Arshad Warsi alongside Saurabh Shukla, while the sequel featured Akshay Kumar in the lead role, with Huma Qureshi also starring. The third installment, *Jolly LLB 3*, is produced by Star Studio18 and directed by Subhash Kapoor. The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao.

As the film approaches its release, the controversies surrounding it highlight the ongoing dialogue about the portrayal of the legal profession in Indian cinema. The filmmakers remain focused on delivering a compelling narrative while navigating the legal challenges that have emerged.
