Alka Nangia Arora Takes Charge as New CGDA

Smt Alka Nangia Arora, an esteemed officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) from the 1991 batch, officially took on her new role as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) on August 1, 2026. With over three decades of experience in defence financial management and public service, Smt Arora is set to lead the CGDA with a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

She is a proud graduate of Garhwal University in Dehradun and IIT Roorkee, enhancing her foundation with advanced training from prestigious institutions like IIM Bangalore and ISB Mohali. Throughout her career, Smt Arora has held several significant positions within the Government of India that underscore her extensive capabilities. These include her previous role as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) under the Ministry of Agriculture and as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.

Extensive Experience in Defence and Public Service

Before her appointment as CGDA, Smt Arora served as Managing Director of the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited and held the position of Additional Development Commissioner for Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles. Her initiatives have focused on promoting handicrafts, improving agricultural research, and enhancing public finance management.

Smt Arora’s government career began at the Dum Dum Ordnance Factory in Kolkata within the Ministry of Defence. She has worked closely with all three Armed Forces, including her roles as Financial Adviser to the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, Financial Adviser to the Eastern Command of the Army, and head of the Area Accounts Office in Kolkata. Additionally, her contributions as the IFA (Integrated Financial Advisor) to the Western Air Command and the Army Hospital Research and Referral (AHRR) showcase her comprehensive understanding of defence operations.

Leading the Charge on Key Policies

During her tenure at the CGDA Headquarters, Smt Arora held the roles of Additional & Special CGDA, where she was instrumental in steering various policies related to Audit, IT & Systems, Integrated Financial Advisory, and Training. Her leadership is expected to bring positive changes to the Defence Accounts Department, promoting efficiency and financial integrity.

With her extensive experience and dedication to service, Smt Alka Nangia Arora is poised to make significant strides as the new Controller General of Defence Accounts, guiding the department towards a robust and efficient financial management system.
