Alia Bhatt’s Ed-A-Mamma Expands into Baby Care as Reliance Retail Acquires 51% Stake

Alia Bhatt’s children’s lifestyle brand, Ed-A-Mamma, is set to expand its offerings with the introduction of a new personal care range for kids and babies. This strategic move follows Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd’s acquisition of a 51% stake in the brand in 2025. With this expansion, Ed-A-Mamma aims to tap into India’s burgeoning childcare market, which is projected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Expansion into Personal Care

The newly launched personal care range includes essential products such as baby wash, oil, lotion, talc-free powder, and rash balm. This marks a significant shift for Ed-A-Mamma, which initially focused on apparel. Alia Bhatt expressed her vision for the brand, stating that she aims for Ed-A-Mamma to become a comprehensive destination for all child and mother-related products, encompassing wear, care, growth, and entertainment. The personal care segment is rapidly growing and highly competitive, making this expansion a strategic priority for the brand.

Strategic Partnership with Reliance

The acquisition by Reliance Retail Ventures in 2025 has been pivotal for Ed-A-Mamma. With the backing of such a powerful entity, the brand is now poised to explore new categories, including personal care, baby furniture, children’s storybooks, and even an animated series. Bhatt emphasized that entering the personal care market was a crucial step following the acquisition, as it provided the necessary support and resources to navigate this crowded industry. The baby care market in India is expected to grow from approximately $34 billion in 2023 to between $60 and $66 billion by 2028, driven by increasing awareness, disposable incomes, and urbanization.

Diverse Product Offerings

In addition to the personal care range, Ed-A-Mamma is also considering re-entering the teenage wear category after a limited release in the past. Bhatt mentioned that the brand is taking its time to identify the right products for this demographic, ensuring they remain accessible and affordable. Furthermore, there are plans to explore a pet care vertical, showcasing the brand’s commitment to diversifying its offerings. Ed-A-Mamma has also ventured into literature with its first children’s book, “The Adventures of Ed-A-Mamma,” and has two additional titles in development, reinforcing its goal of creating a holistic lifestyle ecosystem beyond just physical products.

Future Prospects

As Ed-A-Mamma continues to grow, the brand’s focus remains on providing quality products that cater to the needs of children and their parents. With the backing of Reliance and a clear vision for expansion, Alia Bhatt’s brand is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the childcare market. The combination of personal care, apparel, and educational products illustrates Ed-A-Mamma’s commitment to becoming a one-stop shop for families, ensuring that they have access to everything they need for their children’s growth and development.
