AIIA Marks World Cancer Day 2026 with Awareness and Education
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi celebrated World Cancer Day 2026 with a dynamic series of activities aimed at raising awareness and fostering education about cancer prevention and integrative care through Ayurveda. Hosted by the Centre for Integrative Oncology (CIO), the events began on February 3, 2026, and culminated in a main program on February 4, attended by prominent academics, clinicians, researchers, and students.
Engaging the Youth on Cancer Awareness
The observance kicked off with engaging activities for students, including a Slogan Competition and an Essay Writing Competition. These initiatives sought to encourage creative expression among young minds, emphasizing the critical need for awareness and proactive measures in combating cancer and promoting holistic health.

The main event commenced with an inaugural ceremony featuring a distinguished panel of speakers. Among them were:

Patient Awareness and Educational Outreach
In a dedicated session at the hospital outpatient department (OPD), faculty and postgraduate scholars educated patients and their families about the early warning signs of cancer, lifestyle risk factors, and how Ayurveda can contribute to cancer prevention and supportive treatment. This patient-centered approach aimed to empower individuals with knowledge and strategies for better health outcomes.
Highlighting Research and Innovations
The afternoon session featured a comprehensive report presented by Dr. Amrish Dedge, detailing the Centre for Integrative Oncology’s activities throughout 2025. This report shed light on the various initiatives aimed at advancing integrative cancer care, research, and patient awareness. Additionally, a new CIO Information Brochure was launched, showcasing the Ayurveda-based oncology services available at AIIA.
Guest Lecture on Cancer Research
A highlight of the event was a guest lecture delivered by Dr. Ashok Patel, Associate Professor at IIT Delhi’s Kusuma School of Biological Sciences. Dr. Patel shared invaluable insights into the molecular understanding of cancer, foundational genomics in cancer research, and the potential of interdisciplinary approaches in advancing oncology research and healthcare. His contributions were recognized with a formal felicitation.
Acknowledging Youth Contributions
The day concluded by honoring the winners of the Slogan and Essay Competitions, celebrating their intellectual creativity and commitment to the theme of cancer awareness. In his presidential address, Director Prof. (Dr.) Pradeepkumar Prajapati emphasized Ayurveda’s significant role in cancer prevention, lifestyle changes, immunity enhancement, and comprehensive patient care. He reaffirmed AIIA’s dedication to promoting evidence-based integrative oncology.
The observance of World Cancer Day 2026 at AIIA wrapped up with a vote of thanks from Dr. Pramod Yadav, who expressed his gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, faculty members, students, and participants for their contributions, making the event a remarkable success.
