Aadhaar Good Governance Portal Launched

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled the Aadhaar Good Governance portal, aimed at simplifying the approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance user-friendliness and improve access to essential services for citizens. The portal was launched by Secretary S. Krishnan, alongside key officials from UIDAI and NIC.
Enhancing Accessibility and Transparency
The newly launched online platform, accessible at swik.meity.gov.in, follows the recent notification of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025. This amendment, enacted under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016, aims to bolster transparency and inclusivity in decision-making processes. With over a billion Indians relying on Aadhaar for authentication over 100 billion times, the expansion of its scope is expected to further enhance the ease of living and provide seamless access to a variety of services.
During the launch, Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized the importance of this platform in accelerating the integration of more use cases that promote good governance and improve citizens’ quality of life. He expressed optimism that ongoing enhancements to related processes would lead to significant advancements in service delivery.
Facilitating Public Interest Services
The recent amendment allows both government and non-government entities to utilize Aadhaar authentication for various public interest services. This includes initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, disseminating knowledge, and improving residents’ access to essential services. The changes are designed to create a trustworthy environment for both service providers and seekers, ensuring secure transactions.
Aadhaar number holders will benefit from streamlined services across multiple sectors, including hospitality, healthcare, e-commerce, and education. Service providers will also find the platform advantageous for tasks such as staff attendance tracking, customer onboarding, e-KYC verification, and exam registrations. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance the overall efficiency of service delivery in India.
Comprehensive Guidance for Authentication Requests
The Aadhaar Good Governance portal will serve as a valuable resource, offering detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for entities seeking authentication. This guidance will assist organizations in navigating the application process and onboarding for Aadhaar authentication effectively.
Additionally, the portal may incorporate face authentication technology into customer-facing applications of private entities, enabling convenient authentication anytime and anywhere. As part of its commitment to making Aadhaar more accessible, MeitY has proposed rules that allow entities beyond government ministries to utilize Aadhaar authentication. Public feedback on these proposed amendments was solicited earlier this year, reflecting a collaborative approach to enhancing the Aadhaar framework.
With the launch of the Aadhaar Good Governance portal, the Ministry aims to create a more user-friendly environment, ultimately improving citizens’ access to vital services.
