Celebrating Diversity: The 24th Divya Kala Mela

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) (DEPwD), in collaboration with the National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), is gearing up to host the 24th Divya Kala Mela. This vibrant event will take place at Gulshan Ground in Jammu from February 14 to February 24, 2025. The inauguration will be led by Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, along with other distinguished guests. This fair is not just an exhibition; it embodies the spirit of inclusion and empowerment for persons with disabilities across India.

A Platform for Economic Empowerment

The Divya Kala Mela serves as a significant initiative aimed at empowering Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs. It provides them with a platform to showcase their unique skills and products. This year, the event will feature around 100 Divyang artisans from approximately 20 states and Union Territories. The fair will highlight a diverse range of products, including handicrafts, handlooms, eco-friendly items, jewelry, and packaged foods.

The event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s vision of “Vocal for Local,” promoting local craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. Visitors can explore a variety of categories, such as home dรฉcor, clothing, stationery, and personal accessories. The fair will be open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, allowing ample time for attendees to engage with the artisans and learn about their crafts. This initiative not only supports economic independence for individuals with disabilities but also fosters a sense of community and pride in local craftsmanship.

Cultural Extravaganza and Special Attractions

Beyond being a marketplace, the Divya Kala Mela will transform into a cultural hub. Attendees can look forward to captivating performances by Divyang artists and renowned professionals throughout the event. The fair will also feature a special cultural program titled “Divya Kala Shakti,” which will take place on February 24, 2025. This program aims to showcase the artistic talents of individuals with disabilities, providing them with a platform to shine.

Moreover, visitors can indulge in a variety of regional delicacies from across India, making the event a feast for the senses. The combination of shopping, cultural performances, and culinary experiences promises to create an unforgettable atmosphere. The fair aims to celebrate the rich diversity of Indian culture while promoting inclusivity and empowerment for all.

An Inclusive Experience for Everyone

The Divya Kala Mela is designed to be an inclusive experience for all attendees. In addition to the exhibitions and performances, the event will feature interactive experience zones tailored for different disabilities. These zones will include Divyangjan sports activities and exhibitions showcasing new assistive aids and appliances.

This holistic approach ensures that the Mela is not merely a marketplace but a celebration of ability and empowerment. By creating an environment that caters to various needs, the event aims to foster understanding and appreciation for the talents of individuals with disabilities. It is a step towards building a more inclusive society where everyone can participate and contribute.
